Would you like to explore the NFTs and decentralized finances DeFi as a creative space? Are you interested in joining a group of artists researchers exploring these questions and tools? 

If you answer yes to any of these question or you are strongly curious about Crypto, we invite you to apply to participate  in a series of 4 Online workshops/labs for artists and makers offered by MotionDAO

These lab/workshop sessions will offer foundational concepts and tools to access the blockchain economic ecosystem and explore its potential for social and financial innovation. Creative explorations of the affordances of the blockchain will be  encouraged.

The four 90 minutes sessions will introduce the participants to the fundamentals concepts and practices of Web3: blockchain, smart contracts, crypto wallets, token economies, remittances, design and emergence of value, non-fungible tokens, DeFi and DAOs.

Each session will be divided in three parts: conceptual framework, a hands on practicum and a Q&A.

We will be using the  Near Protocol.

Six hours of online mentoring will be offered by appointment.

All levels of experience with crypto and the blockchain are welcome.

A worldwide call for projects made via Ars Electronica’s online submission tool will be open from mid of December till 9th of February, 2015. The submitting artists have the chance to win a residency at the European Southern Observatory (ESO) in Chile. There is free access to the application process by all interested artists.

Interdisciplinarity, digital creativity and intercultural exchange are the three key criteria for artists submitting to the open call.

We are looking for digital artists who will be truly inspired by ESO, showing their wish to engage with the ideas and with ESO as places of scientific collaboration, using them as springboards of the imagination which dare to go beyond the paradigm.

 

You might be a choreographer, performer, visual artist, film maker or a composer – what you all have in common is that you use the digital as the means of making your work and/or the way of presenting it.

Tees Dance Film Fest - CALL OUT FOR DANCE FILMS!

 
WE ARE NOW SEEKING SHORT DANCE FILMS FOR SUBMISSION

We are interested in ways in which filmmakers explore the genres of creative experimental choreography and filmmaking.

Films can include real life dancers, animation and digital elements but must fuse dance and filmmaking in original and innovative ways.

The 2nd exibition of Tees Dance Film Festival takes place on 14th of May 2015 and will feature two categories:

1. Dance Films created by Professional Artists

  • Professional films must be no longer than 15 minutes
  • Dance film submissions in this category should be engaging and creative, inspired by spaces, landscapes and cultures

2. Dance Films created by Young Artists 14-25 years.

  • The film must be no longer than 5 minutes
  • Films that capture the body in new and exciting ways e.g. on location, site specific, fragmentation of the dancing body, non-linearity

Please note dance films that show dance performance for the proscenium stage or of documentary style will not be considered.

WANTED: 3 FEMALE ACTORS with movement skills or DANCERS with acting skills, 

FOR ELENA BAJO'S PERFORMANCE AT FORT DU BRUISSIN, LYON (FRANCE) 11th and 13th of September, within the framework of the Lyon Biennial

-3 female actors (the performance will be in French)  to be a part of an experimental piece, outside of the 'comfort zone' in an art exhibition space in Lyon

DESCRIPTION

The piece is created by Elena Bajo, a visual artist who has exhibited internationally and focuses on the social, political aspects of the site in the city of Lyon. Bajo combines performance with large scale installations to investigate the political and social conditions of change in post-industrial structures, creating site specific work and a space of collective action.

The performers will be required to perform in the space of Fort du Bruissin (Lyon). They will be required to do both improvised and choreographed script/movements determined before hand with the artist. The generator of the piece is a political text/poem. This political text-manifesto will be handed to the performers and it will be used to generate their individual script/choreography. Total duration of the performance around 20 min. 

REHEARSALS

2  days, 1 hour/day individual work with the artist and 1 day (1 hour) run-through in the space with all the performers

Express briefly why you want to participate in the project. URGENT WANTED: 2 FEMALE DANCERS, 1 FEMALE ACTOR,

FOR EXPERIMENTAL PERFORMANCE PIECE

DAY OF THE PERFORMANCE: MAY 23RD at LA CASA ENCENDIDA, MADRID (SPAIN)

-2 female dancers, 1 female actor (English is OK and/or Spanish speaking is perfect)  to be a part of an experimental piece, outside of the 'comfort zone' in an art exhibition space in Madrid

Description / Concept

The piece is created by Elena Bajo, a visual artist who has exhibited internationally and

I am preparing a performance at La Casa Encendida, the opening is the May 23, the curator is Juan Canela. I'm looking for 3 women performers: two dancers who are interested in creating their own choreography, solo (the dancers)  and her own script (for the actress) starting with an anarchist text ongoing work fruit of my artistic research. You should create a choreography or a script 2-3 minutes long and it will be shown in a 15-20min performance. The total duration of the solo piece that the performer should prepare based on the text is just around 1-2 min (that will be looped in different ways throughout the performance, 20 mins in total). The piece consists of a solo part, rehearsed and a collective-improvised part unrehearsed.

None of the performers will know what the others are presenting until the moment of the performance . I would like to work with performers who can work the concept of exhaustion in dance (Andrei Lepecki) and performance (Becket the quadrant)  non-movement and still movement, more postmodern and conceptual, more absence than presence .... 

Conceptual line, aware of the postmodernist discourse and technique,  Yvonne Rayner, Trisha Brown, Laban technique...etc

REHEARSALS: 2  days, 2 hour/day rehearsals and1 run-through the day of the performance or the day before.

-2 Bailarinas,y 1 actriz (acento extranjero en Inglés está bien y hablar español es perfecto) para formar parte de una pieza experimental, fuera de la "zona de confort" en un espacio de exposición de arte en Madrid, La Casa Encendida

Descripción / Concepto 

La pieza esta creada por Elena Bajo, un artista visual que ha expuesto a nivel internacional y 

se centra en los aspectos sociales, políticos del sitio en la ciudad de Madrid. Bajo combina performance con instalaciones a gran escala para investigar las condiciones políticas y sociales del cambio en las estructuras post-industriales, la creación de trabajo específica del sitio y un espacio de acción colectiva. 

Será necesarios que las performers actúen en el espacio de exhibición. La pieza tendrá elementos improvisados y tambien movimientos coreográficos determinado de antemano con la artista. El generador de la pieza es un texto político / poema. 

Este texto-manifiesto politico será entregado a los performers y se  utilizara para generar su coreografía individual (en el caso de los bailarines), y el guion (en el caso de los actores) 

Duración total de la actuación en torno a 20 min. 

El performance se realizara  el 23 de mayo y el curador es Juan Canela. Estoy buscando a 3 mujeres artistas: dos bailarines que estén interesados ​​en crear su propia coreografía, solo (los bailarines) y su propio guión (para la actriz) a partir de un texto anarquista en curso fruto de mi trabajo de investigación artística. Debe crear una coreografía o una secuencia de comandos de 2-3 minutos de duración y se mostrará en una actuación de 15 -20 min. La duración total de la pieza en solitario que el performer debe preparar partiendo del texto esera de 2-3 min (que se presentara en loop de diferentes maneras a lo largo de la actuación, 20 minutos en total). Ninguno de los artistas intérpretes o ejecutantes sabrá lo que los otros están presentando hasta el momento de la actuación. Me gustaría trabajar con actores que pueden trabajar el concepto de agotamiento de la danza (Andrei Lepecki) y el rendimiento (Becket el cuadrante) no-movimiento y still movimiento, más postmodern y conceptual, más  ausencia de movimiento que presencia .... 

Línea conceptual, consciente del discurso posmoderno y de la técnica, por mencionar modelos: Yvonne Rayner, Trisha Brown, técnica de Labán. 

ENSAYOS: 2 días, 2 horas / día y 1 día antes del opening para el run though con todas las performers.

Proposal Deadline: 1st October 2013

The ArtEZ Master of Choreography celebrates its 10 years with the publicationInventing Futures, which we see as one ‘object’ of artistic research. Artists, current and former students, and theorists reflect on themes and notions that have emerged in the program as particularly challenging and productive, namely latency, constraint, collaboration, failure and trust. These are suggested as prisms through which one could think, imagine and invent future(s), in particular for choreography and institutional practice-as-research.

Together with the launching of the book a gathering is organized, which is an initiative of the ArtEZ Master of Choreography and Bertha Bermudez / ICKamsterdam, with the support of the ArtEZ Professorship Theory in Art. The aim is to extend the discussion on artistic research to the inter/national field.

On 2nd December a Roundtable Discussion with guests from Holland and abroad will take place, addressing and problematizing Artistic Research. The launching of the book and a reception in the evening will follow the discussion. Precise times to be announced later.

On 3rd December working sessions and seminars proposed and led by artists and theorists will take place.

Theme and Context:

Compared to the late 80s and early 2000s it has become harder to foster institutional experimentation and change from within. The production of measureable, ‘understandable’ and profitable products have, under the guise of the discourse of innovation, to a large extent become sine qua non conditions for validation and funding in the arts and the humanities. These conditions, one could argue, are not exactly favorable for artistic research, in particular when this is thought of as the production or invention of ‘problems’ (Cvejić, 2013) and not as avenues leading towards solutions that follow current fashion or pre- determined guidelines for their mainstream acceptance and transferability.

A plethora of artistic research educational programmes and centres have emerged in the last few years. And yet, the function and value of artistic research remain too vague, as it is understood and used for different and often contradictory purposes per institution (educational/academic, economic, stylistic, market-oriented etc.). One could thus arguably claim that artistic research is becoming more detached from the artists and their artistic processes/methodologies and more attached to institutional needs and requirements.

Against this background, Inventing Futures proposes a gathering in which artists and theorists from within and outside of institutions can expose, discuss and experiment with their understandings and doings of artistic research. (How) can educational institutions be with and within artistic research? How can artistic research be (re)invented?

In the framework of the TKB project conclusion (http://tkb.fcsh.unl.pt), a 1st. CALL for Papers is now open for submission of abstracts to the following international conference on:

"Multimodal Communication: Language, Performance and Digital Media"

Event dates: Thursday 02 to Friday 03 May 2013

Venue: CCB, Lisbon (http://www.ccb.pt/sites/ccb/en-EN/).

The CCB are co-producers of the conference and associate partners of the TKB project, running at the Centre of Linguistics (CLUNL) of FCSH-UNL.

The Conference is organized in the framework of the TKB research project conclusion (http://tkb.fcsh.unl.pt) and aims to: present the results and software tools developed during the TKB project; provide a multidisciplinary forum for researchers from different disciplines and artists interested in the documentation of Performing Arts (with a focus on contemporary theatrical dance and Performance), as well as in issues of multimodality in human communication and in human-computer interaction, particularly regarding video annotation tools and collaborative platforms for cultural heritage. It is organized by the FCSH and the FCT of Universidade Nova de Lisboa, Portugal.

The event wishes to bring together contemporary artists and researchers from a broad range of academic disciplines, working within different theoretical and methodological paradigms in a creative, internationally oriented, and stimulating atmosphere. The importance of multimodal communication and creativity is now generally recognised by researchers from either the Humanities, Information Technologies or Cognitive Science. This conference therefore offers an opportunity to present and learn about research findings concerning human behaviour and agency in different types of communication and their cognitive, cultural, narrative, technological, social, textual or discourse functions.

Call for Proposals Science Gallery at Trinity College Dublin, Ireland is seeking proposals for an upcoming major exhibition OSCILLATOR

Calling all vibratory beings! Electron wizards, mega-nano-nauts, chemical visionaries, code infinitizers, pendular kineticists, sleep cycle sleuths, and feedback fetishists. OSCILLATOR is a curated exhibition exploring the vibrant vibratory world of oscillators, oscillations, and feedback.

This diverse, interactive show will feature installations and demonstrations ranging from cyclical chemical reactions and swinging bridges to out of control automated pricing schemes and el Niño. We are interested in oscillatory explorations from many different fields and genres, including chemistry, physics, astronomy, earth sciences, biology, mechanics, neurology, mathematics, logic, and the arts.

EXHIBITION OVERVIEW:

Oscillators are ubiquitous, both in human-made systems and in physical, biological, and informational processes. They arise, either by design or by accident, in the presence of interconnected parts and feedback paths. Sometimes they’re a critical component, essential to the correct function of a system, other times they might be a curiosity or a nuisance, or even a catastrophic force. The exhibition will use the idea of the oscillator to bring together a brain-shaking array of experiments, interactive activities, and artworks.

Potential oscillations include: self-oscillating chemical systems like the color/pattern generating Belousov-Zhabotinksii reaction and the mercury beating heart biological oscillators like the ubiquitous circadian rhythms found in nearly all lifeforms, the electric fields created by the ghost knifefish to aid in navigation and communication, the great synchronized choruses of various amphibians, and the complex rhythmic patterns found in human brainwaves oscillatory physical phenomena like the chaotic motions of coupled and multiply articulated pendulums, the marvels of self-assembling nano materials, and disastrous sympathetic resonance in bridges, and buildings geophysical phenomena like el Niño and other weather patterns, continental drift, and cyclical eruptions in geysers and volcanoes math/logic/CS procedures and techniques for creating and probing oscillations, like digital waveform generation, logical games, brain teasers and tautologies, and pseudo random number generators repetitive and oscillating systems used in music, dance, and the visual arts, like guitar feedback, pattern music, cyclical dance forms, and tiling patterns cultural feedback and oscillations like memes, fads, and sampling and reuse Curator and

Douglas Irving Repetto is an artist and teacher. His work, including sculpture, installation, performance, recordings, and software is presented internationally. ReelDance Call for Screen Dance Submission​s

ReelDance is currently inviting submissions of Australian and international screen dance work in the following categories*:

+ single channel (looped for installation)
+ multi-channel (looped for installation)
+ screen dance short – under 10mins (single screening)
+ mid-length screen dance – 10-60mins (single screening)
+ dance documentary (single screening)
+ online and/or mobile environments

*Entries must fall within the following definition: the work must contain within its main concerns dance and/or dynamic expressions of movement created specifically for the screen, be it human movement, the dance-like movement of inanimate objects, dance effects achieved through filming or post-production, or abstract motion studies. NOTE: Recordings of live dance performance will not be considered (unless as part of dance documentary).


*Only works created after 1 January 2010 will be considered.

Congratulations to Student Dance Filmmakers

The Departments of Modern Dance and Film & Media Arts are pleased to announce the jury selections for the Student Dance for the Camera Program for the 8th International Dance for the Camera Festival and Workshop with Katrina McPherson.

We would like to thank students from around the globe for their submissions and congratulate the selected filmmakers. This is the first year a Jury's Choice Cash Award has been offered.

JURY STATEMENT
The $200 award goes to the Workshop "Cámaras danzantes (Dancing Cameras)" taught by Silvina Szperling at Escuela Internacional Cine y TV in Cuba, in collaboration with Festival DVDanza Habana, directed by Roxana de los Ríos, during March-April 2011. With over 80 submissions from around the world the collection of student dance films made during a workshop in Havana, Cuba with Silvina Szperling from Argentina, are particularly compelling. It is to the sponsors of this workshop that we award our cash prize, as a way of supporting their efforts. By the simplest of means, these student filmmakers immediately transport us to their worlds, and a great spirit of humanity is evident in every film.

LOW LIVES 3

INTERNATIONAL CALL FOR PROPOSALS

About Low Lives:
Now entering its third year, Low Lives is an international exhibition of live performance-based works transmitted via the internet and projected in real time at multiple venues throughout the U.S. and around the world. Low Lives examines works that critically investigate, challenge, and extend the potential of performance practice presented live through online broadcasting networks. These networks provide a new alternative and efficient medium for presenting, viewing, and archiving performances. Low Lives is not simply about the presentation of performative gestures at a particular place and time but also about the transmission of these moments and what gets lost, conveyed, blurred, and reconfigured when utilizing this medium. Low Lives embraces works with a lo-fi aesthetic such as low pixel image and sound quality, contributing to a raw, DIY and sometimes voyeuristic quality in the transmission and reception of the work.

Low Lives is pleased to announce a strategic partnership with Chez Bushwick, an artist-run organization based in Brooklyn, New York dedicated to the advancement of interdisciplinary art and performance, with a strong focus on new choreography. Chez Bushwick is co-producing Low Lives 3 and is instrumental in extending the platform’s international reach. Low Lives 3 will feature a ‘spotlight’ on Contemporary Choreography throughout the exhibition program.

Artists working in any media are invited to submit proposals for live performance-based works.

Selection Process:
Each Presenting Partner (see list below) will follow their curatorial process to select one performance to take place at their venue. In addition, 30 artists will be selected from artist proposals responding to this Call for Artists, and will be invited to present their work across the Low Lives network. These performances will be transmitted through the internet from a location of the artists’ choice. The Selections Committee will be comprised of Directors and Curators from each of the Presenting Partner institutions. A full-color catalog and companion DVD with information and an image for each participating artist will be produced for Low Lives 3 after the exhibition takes place.

Artists selected to participate in this exhibition will be instructed on how to transmit their performance through a live online broadcasting network. Performances will be projected in real time across the Low Lives 3 network of Presenting Partners and venues. The exhibit will also be available for online viewing, both in real time as it unfolds across political boundaries and time zones, and on the Low Lives website after the event.

CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS

The “Dance Camera Istanbul” 3rd International Dance Film Festival will be held in Istanbul, Turkey in 2010 winter, focusing on video dance, dance on camera, dance photography and dance film screenings. Dance for camera is a fusion art form combining choreography and filmmaking. “Dance Camera Istanbul” annually showcases international dance films, camera re-works and experimental movement-based films by contemporary video artists and choreographers from student to professional level. There is no restriction on the subject.

The festival supports films which investigate the ongoing search for movement and spaces, both in and out of bodies.

The aim of the festival is to build a community for both dancers and filmmakers to come together, to present and promote both local and cutting edge international works, to share ideas, and to provide a collaborative experience for dancers and filmmakers as they work together to produce the final product.

“Dance Camera Istanbul” also focuses on increasing attention and awareness of the collaborations between dance, film, visual arts and music as well as the different mediums and forms of dance. The goals of “Dance Camera Istanbul” are to offer a proper venue in which to screen and share the works, to encourage and educate student dance filmmakers, to spread the knowledge of dance for camera, and to deepen the understanding of Turkish and international dance film practices through panels, practical workshops, discussions and screenings.


We are seeking enthusiastic individuals and groups who are strongly focused (or want to focus) on dance for camera work, video or multimedia installation collaborations. Examples include video dance, dance documentary, adaptation of a stage work or site specific creation, any kind of artistic and experimental work with kinesthetic energy and rhythmic design, and choreographic works that are created specifically for the lens of the camera and include a well- planned editing process. We invite you to be part of the “Dance Camera Istanbul Festival” family. Accepted works will be screened in various venues in Istanbul, throughout Turkey and at the sister event Cinematic Lounge Series. In attendance will be Turkish and international dancers, filmmakers, musicians, photographers, artists and students, as well as both national and international audiences. During the festival, we will organize discussions between the artists, filmmakers and audience after the screenings.


Dance Film Workshops and Lectures/Panels

The workshops will be directed by acclaimed national and international dance and video artists, filmmakers and choreographers who will introduce different approaches to camera, dance and movement as well as providing information about video dance history, archives and links for further research. The workshops will take place at several dance studios and stages as well as access to indoor and outdoor spaces for filming. During the festival month, there will be national and international lectures serious on the dance camera work and the related fields. If you are interested in honoring us with your presence and lecture, please contact with us in regards to your possible topic.
