Lindy hop dance happens to be one of the styles of Swing dance. This dance form busted all rules of races that were still popular in the early 20th century. During this era, ballroom dance styles dominated New York, however, Lindy Hop dance found its ground in the Savoy Ballroom. This ballroom did not discriminate between black and white, all were allowed to dance and perform different moves.
Dance competitions were a great help in promoting this dance form. Most competitions were held on weekly basis by dance groups and classes. It was during these contests that the first lift was performed that mesmerized the audience. From that time onwards, lift movements became a hit as well as a must in other dances. A dance group was formed by Herbert White known as “Whitey’s Lindy Hoppers”. This group had the best dancers that performed at the Savoy. This troupe went on to perform Lindy hop dance in many movies like “Hellzapoppin” and “A day at the races”.
Wow! With such dance history, this dance should surely be the first preference of learning when opting for one of the many swing dance forms.
