Alvin Hill is a multi-media composer, DJ, and educator. He studied classical violin and piano from the age of four and completed his BA at Dartmouth College where he studied composition with Jon Appleton. Alvin earned his Masters in Media Arts from the University of Michigan. He has worked as a professional DJ since the early 80s, holding residencies in Detroit, NYC and LA. Alvin has worked with many Detroit luminaries, including Derrick May, Kevin Saunderson, and Carl Craig. In addition to being the resident multi-media composer for Mise en Place Dance, he has also composed scores and performed with dance companies throughout the US, including Arachne Aerial Arts, The Playground, Koichi Tamano & Harupin-Ha, and Chavasse Dance and Performance. Alvin has performed most recently at the Cranbrook Science Museum, the Detroit Institute of Arts, the Kennedy Center for Performing Arts, and the Alvin Ailey Theater. He is currently a Lecturer and Media Support Specialist at the University of Michigan’s Residential College.
