Autumn Mist Belk (choreographer, filmmaker) earned her B.A. in dance and studio art from the University of Alabama and her M.F.A. in dance choreography from the University of Maryland. In addition to leading the multimedia dance group Code f.a.d. Company, Autumn is on faculty at North Carolina State University (teaching dance, yoga, and gymnastics), and she teaches Yin and Vinyasa Yoga classes at Bliss Body Yoga and offers retreats and private lessons through her brand YogaMist. As a performer, Autumn worked for Walt Disney World Entertainment, was a member of ContempraDance Theatre, and has danced guest roles with Liz Lerman Dance Exchange, Joe Goode Performance Group, and David Dorfman Dance. She has also worked with many independent choreographers on new and repertory performances including Robin Harris, Donald McKayle, Mark Haim, Malcolm Shute, Meredith Monk, Ann Hamilton, Sara Pearson, and Patrik Widrig. As a choreographer, Autumn’s work has been presented throughout the United States, including recent performances in New York, Seattle, Washington, D.C., and Birmingham, Alabama. As a filmmaker, Autumn’s dance films have been recognized by filmSPARK (part of downtown Raleigh’s creative festival SPARKcon) and have been screened at Cucalorus Film Festival in Wilmington, NC. Autumn was honored to be selected as a 2009 and 2013 Regional Artist Project Grant recipient from United Arts, the 2010 Choreography Fellowship winner from the NC Dance Alliance, recipient of the Sue Stinson Education Grant in 2011, a choreographer for the NC Dance Festival Tour for the 2008-2009, 2010-2011 and 2012-2013 seasons, and as a teaching and performing artist in the Durham Arts Council’s 2010-2012 CAPS directory for public school programs.
