Bienvenida (Beni) Matías is an executive, educator and filmmaker. She is the Executive Director of Dance Films Association. She is a founding Board Member and former National Association of Latino Independent Producers (NALIP) Coordinator. As a producer/director and production consultant she works with filmmakers in story structure development, proposal writing, and financial management. Much of her work involves mentoring young people in the art and business of social issue documentary. Ms. Matías is the recipient of ITVS LINCS Program, Jerome Foundation, New York State Council on the Arts, and National Endowment for the Arts support for her documentary work. She is the recipient of a Leadership Initiative in Neighborhood grant, from the St. Paul Company, Minnesota, to explore connections between arts criticism, media, leadership, and community activism. She has taught at the Film and Media Department of Hunter College, CUNY, and at the McGhee Division of New York University’s School of Continuing and Professional Studies (SCPS).
