Chloe Chignell is a dancer and choreographer based in Melbourne. She received her Bachelor of Dance from The Victorian College of The Arts in 2013. Upon graduating Chloe was awarded the inaugural Phillip Law Travel Scholarship, enabling her to travel to Europe and engage in a choreographic residency in France in late 2014. Chloe was also the recipient of The Professional Pathways Scholarship awarded through the Victorian Government and The VCA. The scholarship partners her with Dancehouse throughout 2014 enabling studio solo practice, mentorship with Linda Sastradipradja and Philipa Rothfield and an internship in the Dancehouse office. During her time at the VCA Chloe was awarded numerous scholarships and awards; The Friends of the VCA scholarship(2011), the Joy Nicholls scholarship (2011 and 2012) and the Victorian Government Outstanding Creative Scholarship for her second and third years of study. Whilst at the VCA Chloe worked with choreographers Sandra Parker, Deanne Butterworth, Frances Rings and Phoebe Robinson. Since Graduating Chloe has been involved in developments and performed for Tim Walsh, Becky Hilton and James Batchelor. She has been working for James Batchelor for a number of years performing in live works and installations in Melbourne, Sydney and Canberra. Chloe is continuing to work with James Batchelor throughout 2014. Chloe has choreographed numerous short works performed at First Run Lucy Guerin Inc, MudFest, PAVE festival, QL2 dance and Short and Sweet Dance Festival in Melbourne and Canberra. In 2013 she received a Creative Young Stars Grant for the development of her new work ‘A Series of Constellations’ made in collaboration with Alice Heyward. In early 2013 she travelled to New York City attending workshops with many seminal dance artists, including attending ‘Melt’ a winter school at Movement Research Centre. Whilst in NYC Chloe began learning ‘Klein Technique’ from somatic practitioner Susan Klein. Chloe is very interested in learning through many different body practices, she currently studies Alexander Technique with Fiona Bryant and is undertaking a Certificate IV in Pilates instructing and allied health.
