Daniel Aschwanden, performer and choreographer but also venturing in the field of video-and newmedia. Recently he became interested in shifting performative investigations into urban contexts questioning the notions of site-specifity and developing new methodes to build interfaces between different media-technologies and people. In this effort he teamed up with Peter Stamer and together they developed several formats with an emphasis on exchange and communication oriented art&performance practices between China and Europe. In the late 80ies he founded the first fringefestival “TANZSPRACHE” on dance&performance in Vienna, in the nineties he worked with a strong focus on experimental aproaches in the field of art and the social with his mixed ability danceperformance Group “Bilderwerfer” touring in Europe, United States and South America. Aschwanden is very interested in process-oriented work and collective approaches to creation. 2006 he is appointed artist in residence at Viennas TANZQUARTIER. With PATHOSBÜRO, a group founded together with Katherina Zakravsky he is dedicating a longterm research between theory and practice on gesture and the pathosformula on the background of the culture theories of Aby Warburg and their mediatransformations. This is resulting in lectures, urban interventions, the magazine Pathospost, a sciencefiction video series plus performative extensions. He also becomes co-founder of Screentv, an artinitiative for an internet-streaming-tv statiion. The medialaboratory “absent –interfaces” he founded with Scott de LaHunta has meanwhile extended to a european network with nodes in Girona, Istanbul,Vienna and Zagreb.
