Initiative for choreographic research & platform for the artist's voice Danslab was born in 2006. Danslab is a practice based research initiative in The Hague that encourages a network for the artist’s development and exchange, as well builds on a centre for knowledge of artistic research, dance and choreography.It’s functional concept and aim is based on the needs of the choreographers, who themselves called for the necessity of a degree of autonomy in order to create for themselves an environment where artistic research exchange, reflection and analysis would become the primary objective. Danslab stimulates the artist’s personal freedom and simultaneously creates a community, where they can Re-consider, Re-search, Re-define, and Re-create themselves and their medium. In order to realize this we have chosen to develop a structure based on self-organization and a peer-to-peer hierarchy and methodology. Each 2 years, 5 experienced choreographers form together the artistic team. All artistic plans and decisions remain in their hands. With a focus on open exchange, feedback and reflection we aim to inspire the artistic development of contemporary dance.
