David Voigt started in contemporary dance at a young age through the urban street dance and the breaking scene. The absence of academic formation or studies in this field, led him to co-found the artist collective, “Hä*Wie!?” (in 2004) with fellow dancer, Martin Klukas. The group works as a cluster for young and established talents in dance, to exchange knowledge and combine styles to create new approaches on body movement. Interested in exploring the sense of iconoclast, he started to study Visual Communication at the University of Art and Design in Kassel (2007), where he finished his Masters degree in New Media/Performance (2015). In this period he gathered new references and began to explore and incorporate minimalist movements, the concepts of humor, banality & effort became the focal point in his work. Focusing on questioning which are considered the “normal”or “abnormal“ ideas/ways of moving our bodies in everyday life. Always with the idea to update classical dance positions. At dOCUMENTA (13), David took part as a performer at Tino Sehgal's piece, "This Variation". This collaboration became crucial to his ongoing research between linking dance with visual art. In 2014, he entered the finals at "Juste Debout" (experimental category), the world's largest urban dance competition. He presented a conceptual piece entitled "Je suis juste debout”, which takes in consideration the competition frame and title as his main subject.
