Diya Naidu is a choreographer, dancer, performer, facilitator, arts & culture organiser. She is the director of ‘Citizens of Stage Co. Lab.’ and the head of Dance Programming at ‘Shoonya Centre for Art & Somatic Practices’, Bengaluru. As a choreographer, her work has traversed into the area of gender and feminism - violence against women, the role of caste and class in lack of safety for women and the somatic implications of patriarchal penetration. Since 2017.she has been part of several Virtual reality and augmented reality project with Cie Gilles Jobin, Switzerland. This new dynamic interaction of dance with technology has proved extremely exciting through the pandemic in terms of being able to connect and collaborate. She explores intimacy and touch through her work and finds deep correlations between our deepest needs and desires and the challenges we face in the society and the political realm. Diya has performed in many countries including Switzerland, Germany, Italy, France, UK, Taiwan, Singapore, South Korea. She has also begun engaging in the cultural scene in Africa with the East African Soul train residency (2019). Her sees the artist as the key site for the integration of worlds and hopes to be of service. As such she is invested in work the transforms the artists as well as the witness, and creating in a safe and equal environment while really listening to what is needed She has received the Youth Award for 2020 Performing Art for the AMI arts festival - Kolkata Centre for Creativity. She was Pro Helvetia Artist in residence at the Rote Fabrik, Zurich form June to August 2015, She won the Gender Bender grant in 2016, the same work was later supported by Goethe Institut, Bangalore She was parts of the Facets Choreography Residency in January,2015 and the subsequent work was performed at the Attakkalari India Biennale. She received the Robert Bosch Young Choreographers Award in 2011 and thus created her first solo under the wind of Attakkalari. This was later performed at Khoj festival in Delhi, in Tanshauz - Dusseldorf and a the India design forum, Mumbai among others events. Here solo Red Dress Waali Ladki has been curated at several platforms including Dance Bridges festival Kolkata 2017, Serendipity Arts Festival, Goa -2019 and Think Big Festival, Munich, 2021 it also showed at The Garage in Nairobi She won the special mention for performance for this solo at Prakriti Excellence in Contemporary Dance Awards, 2014. In 2016, her work Hands and Face Project, won the jury award at Prakriti Excellence in Contemporary Dance Awards and in 2017 it toured India for a six city tour it also showed at Dance Bridges, Kolkata in 2019. She was also invited to the the Geneva research sessions in 2015.hosted by Cie Gilles Jobin where dancers, choreographers, astronomers, physicists, musicians, filmmakers and scientists engaged in exchange and research together. In 2019 she was a resident artist and performer at East Soul Train which involved an experimental residency, in Kenya and Tanzania, both on the train as well as in the Bagamayo Arts University. In 2015 she was part of the watch+talk artists residency at the Zurich Theaterspektakel In 2021 she is again one of the artist-in-residece at East's residency called 'Lost and Found', working with 12 other artists from Africa and Europe.
