Elizabeth June Bergman is a dancer, improvisational artist, choreographer, and teacher with a wide range of professional pursuits. She received her masters degree in dance performance from the University of Iowa as an Iowa Arts fellow and her bachelors from DeSales University in Pennsylvania. Her choreography has been produced in New York City, Minneapolis, the Dominican Republic, and Omaha, Nebraska; following graduate school her choreography- both live and on film- has focused on confronting performative norms regarding femininity and sexuality. She is particularly fascinated with the inculcation of ideas and values by various modes and traditions of physical training, which has led her to create workshops ranging from deconstructing and re-contextualizing ballet technique to performed improvisation. She is currently based in Iowa City, Iowa where she is making solos and small group works, getting her yoga certification, and working on a research project on modern dance pioneer Ruth St. Denis.

I joined the meta-academy group and look forward to the interchange. My mother (Linda Verrill) danced with Ruth St. Denis. She died in 1992. In 2010, i gave all her archives (including personal letters, photos, original music etc.) to the Royal Institute for Southeast Asian and Caribbean Studies in Leiden. I hope the research project goes well. Glenna Batson
