    Francesca N.Penzani Biography Francesca N. Penzani started her studies in theatre at Teatro Viaggio and Comuna Baires in Italy. She moved to London where she studied mime with Ronald Wilson at City Lit. She started her dance training at Pineapple Dance Studios and at The Place. She got a GLC grant to study at at London Contemporary Dance School graduating in 1991. She also holds a MFA in Dance, Choreography and Integrated Media from California Institute of the Arts. Before moving to Los Angeles, Francesca worked independently as dancer, choreographer , video maker and teacher for a number of years in London and Europe. Francesca started her video work at The Place Theater in London in 1990 as camera operator, editor and director for live performances and documentaries for British Choreographers (Shobana Jeyasingh, Matthew Hawkins, Mark Baldwin, Rosemary Butcher, Laurie Booth, Emilyn Claid, Peter Badajo, Royston Maldoon) In 1991, the Arts Council of Scotland granted her a residency for Choreographers and Composers directed by Wim Vandekeybus and Thierry De Mey. In 1992, the Arts Council of England and BBC2 awarded Penzani a training-ship in Dance for the Camera. Producers: Bob Lockyer (BBC2), Rodney Wilson (Arts Council of England) Film Projects: "Should Accidentally Fall" Chor. Yolande Snaith, Dir.: Ross MacGibbon, Landseer Films; "Duet with Automobiles" Chor. Shobana Jeyasingh, Dir. Terry Braun, Illuminations Television. In 1995 she choreographed and performed the solo “Ma mi...” in collaboration with Marcello Magni of Theatre de Complicite’ (London). She performed at Lillian Bayles, The Place Theatre, Jackson Lane (London), Box Office Theatre (Italy), Birmingham Rep, Mercat De Les Flores for the Marato’ de L’Espectacles (Barcelona). In 1996, she was assistant to director/choreographer Lloyd Newson of DV8 for the performance “Bound to Please”. She taught Dance Perceptions and Creative Dance For Children at CSUDH 2000/2005. As a guest artist she lectured at Wimbledon School of the Arts in England (1995) and taught video for dance workshops at National Taiwanese University of the Arts (NTUA) in Taipei (2003) and at the Academie der Bilden Kuenste in Munich(2005,2006). She taught Creative Dance Workshop for The First Creative Dance and Music Residency in Rio de Janeiro. CAP RIO 2012 - Art and Social Transformation. She teaches Dance for the Camera, Video Production and she is faculty of Integrated Media program at CalArts (California Institute of the Arts).
