    Hannah Kosstrin is a dance scholar, writer, and artist situated at the intersection of dance, Jewish, and gender studies. She researches Jewishness and gender in modern and contemporary dance. At Reed College, she teaches courses covering dance histories of the U.S., Latin America, Europe, Israel and the Jewish diaspora, and the African diaspora, as well as courses in dance technique and the movement notation system Labanotation. She is excited to join the Bates Dance Festival as Scholar in Residence this summer (2013). Her articles appear in Dance on its Own Terms: Histories and Methodologies edited by Melanie Bales and Karen Eliot (Oxford University Press, 2013), The International Journal of Screendance (2012) and Art Criticism (2010), with work forthcoming in Dance Research Journal (2013). She is currently directing a project supported by the U.S. National Endowment for the Humanities Office of Digital Humanities to make a mobile dance notation app. She holds a Ph.D. in Dance Studies from The Ohio State University with a minor in women’s history.
