Founded in 1984, ImPulsTanz has developed into one of the largest festivals of contemporary dance worldwide. Each summer, thousands of dancers, choreographers and artists from all over the world come together, work together for five weeks, in Vienna, to celebrate contemporary dance. ImPulsTanz - that's performances, workshops, research projects and the soçial programme. Contemporary dance establishment meets the trendsetting productions of tomorrow, which have found their place at the festival‘s [8:tension] Young Choreographers' Series. Every year, ImPulsTanz workshops welcome thousands of participants, beginners and professionals, who use the opportunity to study the entire palette of dance with famous teachers. ImPulsTanz - Vienna International Dance Festival 2014 17 Juli to 17 August 2014 PERFORMANCES Since almost thirty years, ImPulsTanz - Vienna International Dance Festival is presenting a state-of-the-art overview of contemporary dance production. Artists and companies such as Ballet de l‘Opéra National de Paris, Alain Platel / les ballets C de la B, Jérôme Bel, Compagnie Marie Chouinard, Damaged Goods, La La La Human Steps, Cie. Mathilde Monnier, Rosas, Ultima Vez and many more are offering insight into their work. Due to the ambition to meet every work‘s requirements, ImPulsTanz cooperates with various prominent Viennese venues such as the Vienna State Opera, Burgtheater, Volkstheater or MuseumsQuartier. Annually, more than 100 performances are presented to approx. 30.000 spectators. WORKSHOPS With its versatile roster, ImPulsTanz Workshops is the biggest workshop festival in Europe. More than 120 internationally renowned teachers and choreographers are heading 200 workshops open to beginners, intermediate and professional dancers. Both the diversity of the programme (from Contemporary to Butoh, from Yoga to Dance for People with and without Disabilities) as well as the strongly encouraged exchange between teachers and students, performers and audience, amateurs and professionals mark Vienna as THE summerly dance summit. Joe Alegado (Columbus), Boyzie Cekwana (Durban), Zvi Gotheiner (New York), Marcia Haydée (Stuttgart), Jennifer Lacey (Paris), Louise Lecavalier (Montréal), Dominique Mercy (Wuppertal), Elsa Wolliaston (Paris) among many others have already been contributing to the professional and open atmosphere at ImPulsTanz Workshops. RESEARCH LutzImPulsTanz Research offers a series of investigative projects for professional dancers for a restricted number of participating artists chosen by the project head. The working process emphasises challenging interaction between project head and students, thus creating a mutual level for students and teacher. So far, artists like Merce Cunningham (New York), Emio Greco | PC (Amsterdam), Wendy Houstoun (London), Akram Khan (London), Vera Mantero (Lissabon), Mathilde Monnier (Montpellier), Lloyd Newson (London), Steve Paxton (Vermont), Mark Tompkins (Paris) and Wim Vandekeybus (Brussels) brought in their creativity and contributed to the all-communication focus of ImPulsTanz Research. SOÇIAL When the ImPulsTanz day ends, the festival lounge opens its doors. Artists, audience, dance aficionados and music enthusiasts come together to talk, dance and have fun. The festival lounge offers a programme with live gigs and DJ sets, every night for the whole festival period. In addition, ImPulsTanz soçial hosts two festival parties, where international DJs and bands as well as local heroes invite for a dance, among them Cody ChesnuTT, DJ Kormac, Violetta Parisini & Band, DJ DSL, Sofa Surfers and The Bandaloop and many more.
