TRANSIT ARTS, young artists on the move, transports young people to a place of discovery – where creative abilities expand & doors open to a world of possibilities. TRANSIT ARTS is a citywide youth arts development program of Central Community House and the Columbus Federation of Settlements and works in partnership with the Ohio Alliance for Arts Education. TRANSIT ARTS is rooted in a rich history of community engagement and enlists young artists, ages 12-21, in intensive programs of coaching by outstanding artists and other professionals from the creative industries. TRANSIT ARTS provides young people with a variety of FREE interactive, multi-disciplinary arts experiences in a safe and empowering environment. Activities include high quality arts workshops, professional performance and exhibition opportunities, entrepreneurial projects, and paid apprentice positions. Participants develop individual “road maps” (goals and achievement plans) while attending workshops and master classes, and are aided in the development of their talents through expert guidance, frequent opportunities for public recognition of their successes, and engagement with outstanding artists from our community and around the world. The TRANSIT ARTS Performance Group is a dynamic blend of outstanding professional artists and talented youth artists inspiring and challenging one another to honor our roots while creating fresh new work. Rhythms rise from the drums, turntables and dancing feet, as poets, hip-hop emcees, breakdancers, DJs, musicians, singers and visual artists flow together to create a breathtaking, and interactive, multi-disciplinary performance experience. TRANSIT ARTS has performed and exhibited work throughout the region at venues as diverse as: The Columbus Arts Festival, The Columbus Museum of Art, Riverfest, The Wexner Center for the Arts, The King Arts Complex, Upper Arlington Labor Day Festival, McCoy Center for the Arts, Columbus Metropolitan Library, Actors' Theatre (Shakespeare in Schiller Park), Miami University, First Night Columbus at COSI, Veterans Memorial MLK Celebration, TED X Youth, Hot Times Festival, Rhythm on the River, Columbus International Airport, and many more. TRANSIT ARTS activities are made possible through support from: United Way of Central Ohio; Franklin County Board of Commissioners and the Ohio Arts Council through the Ohio Alliance for Arts Education; the Alfred L. Wilson Charitable Fund of The Columbus Foundation, and individual contributors. *The views expressed herein do not necessarily represent those of the Franklin County Board of Commissioners Please visit www.transitarts.com for more information about our artists and programs.
