James Robey holds a BFA in Dance from the University of Akron and an MFA in Dance from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. James is Founding Artistic Director of James Robey Dance, director of the Ridgefield Conservatory of Dance, a member of the Society of Dance History Scholars, in the International Association of Dance Medicine and Science, a member of Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society, on the Advisory Board of the Connecticut Dance Alliance, on the Advisory Board for the Ridgefield Music and Arts Center, on the Danbury Task Force for Dance, and is author and creator of the Robey Jazz Dance Technique and Syllabus. He has been a faculty member in the dance programs at The Hartt School/University of Hartford and the University of Akron. James danced in the companies of Metropolitan Opera Ballet, Connecticut Ballet, New York Dance Theater, Ground Works Dance Theater, Off Center Dance Theater, Ohio Dance Theatre, Covenant Dance Theater, and Cleveland Opera. James Robey Dance has been presented in the Ridgefield Symphony Orchestra's production of "Histoire du Soldat", in concert with Parsons Dance Company at the Ridgefield Playhouse, Dance New Amsterdam in NYC, 5x5 Dance Festival, Bushnell Theatre, CT Meets NY Dance Fest, Rebound Dance Festival, and in Zig Zag Ballet's “A Celebration of Men in Dance” in Vermont, Connecticut, and New York. In addition, James has choreographed works for Full Force Dance Theatre, Ohio Dance Theatre, Wellesley College, University of Akron, Naugatuck Valley Community College, and received commissions from the Connecticut Dance Alliance and Connecticut Choreographer's Forum. James is a two-time finalist in the Leo's Choreography Competitive Event at the Jazz Dance World Congress.
