Kalia Maliali is a performing artist and choreographer from Cyprus. She studied Classic and Contemporary Dance at Despina’s Gregoriadou Dance School in Athens and MFA Choreography & Performance at Roehampton University of London. Since 2010 she has been working on solo and collaborative performances for the stage, sites and screen. Kalia’s work is diverse, shifting from dance to performative acts, texts and installations. Within these channels, her interest in choreography is how it can operate as a syntactic tool of any mental, intellectual, spiritual, emotional and social utterance. Ongoing focus of her is the human body and its necessity to re-invent ways and expressions to communicate complex and shifting perceptions of social and fictitious apparatuses in the search of new perspective(s). Her work has been presented at various creative structures and festivals in Athens, Stockholm, Cyprus, Edinburgh, Italy, Berlin and London.
