Kieron Jina, originally from Durban, South Africa, is a professional freelance screen-dance filmmaker, performer, lecturer/teacher, facilitator, dancer, choreographer, activist, director, cinematographer and video editor. As a choreographer and performer he has worked within physical theatre and contemporary dance. He is perhaps best recognised for his solo choreographic creations Facing Shadows, Infectious, Sin and Homodryer. Jina recently completed a tour of his solo work in Africa and Europe. He has completed his Master’s degree in Performance Studies at the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg. This covered physical theatre, theatre as activism, education and therapy as well as experimental filmmaking. He lectures movement studies in education at the Wits School of Education. And he lectures physical theatre performance at City Varsity in Newtown, Johannesburg. He started a performance art company called 'Stash the Suitcase Collective' with a collection of artists in 2010. This project continues to develop. He is in the process of starting a screen-dance organization is South Africa. Jina’s current study interest is an investigation of site-specific performance and interdisciplinary collaboration in contemporary South Africa. He intends to further his studies and creative talent internationally. He is also very interested in performing at festivals and collaborating with other artists from around the world
