As a performing artist and choreographer, my work investigates expressive states of the body, humanistic themes and the embodiment of imaginary worlds within the genres of dance theater, new media, concert modern dance and improvisation. I have been produced in New York at Joyce Soho, Dancespace, Ailey Citigroup Theater, Dumbo Dance Festival, Dance New Amsterdam and Movement Research; in Seattle, WA; Philadelphia, PA; Portland and Eugene, OR; Columbus, OH as well as internationally in Vancouver and Victoria. Her recent collaborations with multi-media artist Marlon Barrios, under the platform of Unstablelandscape have received international recognition for its emergence of improvisation and interactive technologies. Hapke was awarded a full scholarship to Jacob Pillow’s Choreographer’s Lab under the direction of Susan Marshall. Her quartet, Tracking, was presented at the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. nominating her for the ACDFA /Dance Magazine Award for Outstanding Choreographer. As artist in Seattle, she produced the Improvisational Series of classes and workshops, performed in ongoing improvisations and site specific work with Sil2k-Static Improv Lab., Lisa Nelson’s tuning score, BodyCartography, glassbones as well as many experimental, avant-garde musicians. Hapke has danced professionally with Mary Sheldon Scott/Jarred Powell Performance, The Maureen Whiting Company, Zvi Gottheiner, Bebe Miller and Phillippa Kaye Company and currently performs in the improvisational platform IMP. Kristin received her MFA in Dance from The Ohio State University, her BA from the University of Oregon and her Laban Movement Analysis certification from the Integrated Movement Studies Program.
