Mariana Carranza studied architecture and urbanism in Montevideo. She completed her formation as an artist joining the school of Torres Garcia in Montevideo. Next to working in architecture she has illustrated books, designed discs and clothing in Montevideo and Buenos Aires in the 1980’s. For her proposals to the urban development of Montevideo she won national prizes and a research-fellowship by the UN-Organisation OEA for her artistic achievements that brought her to Central-America and New York. Moving to Spain in 1988 she continued to work in architecture and with artists, such as Jose Guerrero and Antoni Muntadas, exhibiting her works in Madrid and in San Sebastian. Exploring the interfaces between arts and architecture, Mariana Carranza began to work in digital video design and -production, co-producing the video ‘Un Solo Mundo 1492-1992’. Living in Germany since 1994 Mariana Carranza continues to explore the links between visual arts and architecture, landscape and urbanism, with public installations and exhibitions in Munich and Hamburg. In association with Stephan Wolf she established poiesis - studio for architecture and arts in Munich.
