Marie Lynn Blocker is a dance artist and improviser from Western Massachusetts. In 2010 Marie received her B.A. from Bennington College where she studied dance choreography, performance, and improvisation with Susan Sgorbati, Dana Reitz, and Terry Creach. During her time at Bennington Marie also had the pleasure of working with working with dance choreographers and teachers, Paul Matteson, Jennifer Nugent, Gwen Welliver, Joseph Poulson, Lindsay Dietz Marchant, Nora Chipaumire and Gregory Maqoma. In addition to her studies at Bennington, she has attended the Movement Intensive in Compositional Improvisation with The Architects, in Lancaster, Pennsylvania and Tucson, Arizona. Marie has created a number of choreographic works including Binary Behaviors and Weathered. She is presently collaborating with dancer Emily Climer on The Recall Form. Their work was presented at the Vision Festival in NYC and the Schools Festival in Angers, France. Marie’s research and work often explores how the complex neuronal systems of the brain play a role in our ability to communicate and connect with one another through movement. Marie is currently living and working in North Bennington, Vermont where she is member of Susan Sgorbati’s Emergent Improvisation Project. Alongside dance Marie has an interest in mediation and creative movement education and therapy. Marie also pursues visual art and costume design.
