Miriam Aziz is a European performance artist, composer, musician and filmmaker who performs in a variety of music styles that she has referred to as “acoustic cinema”. Initially trained as a lawyer, she continued to experiment with different art genres, initially as a musician and then later combining dance and film. She has released three studio albums; We’re Inside Out (2007) - Tránsito (2009) and Muerte, Bailaremos (2010). She has performed in venues in Oslo, Ithaca, NY, Saint Louis, Missouri and New York City as well as the Womajazz Festival, Italy (in 2007) and the MELA world music festival in Oslo in August 2009. Stylistically speaking, she fuses strands of theatre with musical and vocal arrangements which have been inspired by classical music, jazz and Indian music and cinema. In June 2010, Miriam released Muerte, Bailaremos (RPR) which fuses elements of flamenco and jazz and which was recorded in three takes, with musicians she met by chance during the autumn of 2009 in New York City. She is also the Artistic Director of Artist (s) at Large, a performance art lab which is based in Italy as an associazione culturale which enables her to collaborate with artists in a variety of art forms to further experiment with composition through music, performance and filmmaking. She is currently based in New York as a visiting scholar at Cardozo Law School working on a teaching initiative that aims to foster imagination, innovation, improvisation and integration for lawyers and other professionals. It is also part of a research project Beyond Text in Legal Education based at the School of Law at Edinburgh University. 2012 will also see the release of an audio /visual score to accompany a performance called Were you with Me? by Artist (s) at Large.
