The Tisch Dance and New Media Program is a department wide initiative helping students use new media to reach a global audience and create in new ways via new media. We do this through the use of new media including live streaming and multi-cam recordings of all our concerts from 111 Second Avenue, courses in digital production and new media, and industry partnerships and collaborations. Since our degrees lead to a BFA and MFA in Dance, and choreography is at the core of the program, our students learn the workflows of digital media so that they can apply this in their professional careers as dancers, choreographers, and entrepreneurial dance company founders. Students all have access to the performances and interactive projects for their portfolios and can take workshops in editing and portfolio development. Dance and New Media is a complement to the Department of Dance's long history of creating fully developed dance artists. We also help our students reach a new audience and use social and new media to help them inform, invite, and involve a new audience - or the audience they already have. In addition, we teach interactive technologies and choreography using cutting edge software. We teach courses in Dance for the Camera / Dance and New Media, Digital Production, and provide mentored independent studies, as well as media internships and fellowships with leading dance organizations such as New York City Ballet, 92Y Harkness Dance Center, Lois Greenfield Studio, Merce Cunningham Trust, and the Dance Films Association. We also partner with leading technology companies and other universities around the world. Through our faculty mentored advisement, students take courses in other NYU departments such as Tisch Open Arts, Tisch Film, Interactive Telecommunications Program, Steinhardt School of Education, and NYU's Global Network University.
