Open Source Dance [OSD] provides another career alternative than the options currently available for the new professional contemporary dancer. It is a comprehensive methodology applied immediately following a university/conservatory education in dance, here identified as the most critical phase in the development of a dance career, and is an amalgamation of three integral parts; a physical component, a cyber component and a philosophical component. The physical component constitutes studio space for all OSD sessions; the dance instrument, being the kinesthetic body, requires space to fully explore and continue its physical development. The cyber component constitutes all necessary audio/media/computing and technology tools for documentation, notation, development, explorations, collaborations and praxis in a 21st century global dance community. The philosophical component is based on "open source" principals, which promotes individual growth through group growth in a peer environment with the participants now utilizing their undergraduate/conservatory training as choreographers, soloists, ensemble members, scholars, researchers and teachers to lead, participate and collaborate in all OSD sessions. The absence of a dance educator, for the first time since the inception of the participant's dance education, now allows for artistic and intellectual freedom in this peer environment. As a whole, the OSD environment exists for dancers about to begin their professional careers in dance, who, with all the resources provided, can realize their potential sooner than later which benefits the dancer, the field of dance and the dance public. In Open Source Dance, the 21st century dancer is the product. The Open Source Dance [OSD] methodology is an outcome from the research "Contemporary Dance [Modern/Western Movement Vocabulary]: The catalyst for deviation and extension in Post Structural Sound, Choreoperiodicity, Optimum Creative Dialog and the Dunnist Period in Music"- by Manjunan Gnanaratnam.
