Paulina Ruiz Carballido (Rucarba) (MX) is a dancer, performer, filmmaker, researcher, choreographer and improviser. Born in Oaxaca, México and based in Paris, France. Paulina studied dance from childhood in México. With a Scholarship of Excellence in Humanities, she obtained her BFA in Dance at Universidad de las Américas, Puebla (UDLAP) in 2008, graduating Magna Cum Laude. In 2013, she obtained a Master’s degree in Dance Research with her thesis "L'écran comme espace chorégraphique. Etude sur l'approche cinématographique de la danse dans les œuvres de Maya Deren-Talley Beatty "A study in choreography for camera" et Merce Cunningham-Charles Atlas "Locale" at Université Paris 8 Vincennes Saint Denis, supported by an award from the National Fund for the Arts and Culture, México, 2010-2012. (FONCA-CONACYT), graduating "Mention Trés bien", Suma Cum Laude. In her work she is always pursuing different approaches towards creation while balancing with a constant research on Human Condition and Social Commentary. She's interested in collective scenic creation dealing with the poetics of the body, the human condition, movement, space, memory and the transdisciplinary interactions between art, science, technology, nature and society. She hopes to collaborate and participate with different artistic disciplines in rigorous search for answers to questions concerning the poetics of the body. She has worked and works with various artist presented her collaborations in national and international festivals in Chili, México, Cuba, Germany, England, Belgium, Portugal, Italy, Ireland, Switzerland and France. Since 2009, Paulina have collaborated with Ximena Monroy (director) in “Agite y Sirva” – Touring screendance festival in México and with Jean-Baptiste Fave in France, which was founded as promotion, formation and research network for the screendance field through an annual tour offering screenings, video-installations, workshops, lectures and discussion tables. Each year we launch a screendance programme of artists from 25 countries to be screened in Latin American and European cities. Paulina was part of the Canadian Dance Assembly "6th National Conference" in Ottawa. She has been active in “Sweet & Tender Collaborations” an artist-driven initiative that focuses on self-organization of artistic processes and production and emphasizes collaborative forms of working. Paulina is co-founder with Jean-Baptiste Fave of the Association "Collectif V.I.D.D.A", association for the interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary creation in Paris, France.
