About Me (human/individual)/interests, work..short bio/ THis is the most important. It is the only way to know that you are not a SPAMBOT!Be generous!

I am a modern dancer, choreographer, aerialist and media artist. I have BFA in dance and choreography from the University of Kansas. From 2006-2011 I worked as a co-artistic director for a modern dance company in Kansas City Missouri. Within this role as a director I created hybrid movement video pieces for the stage. Currently I’m pursuing an MFA in interdisciplinary art and media at Columbia College Chicago. With this degree, I have focused on video projection, installation and performance. I use choreographed dance and video projection to investigate and examine narratives that relate to family memories and urban American landscapes. I’m informed by spaces with dilapidated buildings both in industrial cities and rural country-sides. While, my work is influenced by environments, my prime focus is in disassembling the emotional undercurrents in memories and choreographing shapes and light to each frame. Within these projects I manufacture staged atmospheres using video installations, soundscapes and human movement that appropriates the nuanced and surreal emotions within the chosen stories, while additionally seeking an experiential physical experience for the viewer. I find stories that expose human idiosyncrasies, contradictions and loneliness. Through these emotionally driven themes, I touch on issues of gender, inequality and family dysfunctions. Currently I am redirecting my pure dance works into media experiments; I don’t sense a departure from dance but an expansion of what performance can be. I explore scale by projecting video across the range of small spaces to large murals. I also explore projecting on moving screens, as well as the human body. My investigation with dance and media has led me to explore Motion Capture. Motion capture is a process of recording movement using sensors and translating the movement onto a digital model. Once the movement is transferred onto the screen I have been able to redesign and manipulate the choreography in a virtual space. This type of translation has guided me to consider how virtual space and real space interrelate and how the screen can be used to reflect on the language of the body. Through creating these multiple, mediated versions of dance and projection, I continue to find ways to abstract and highlight narratives that give new perspectives of exploring human idiosyncrasies through performance, light, sculpture, sound and dance. While I have attended Columbia, I have also resided in “No Sandbox,” a shared artist loft community that functions as an art collective, a performance venue and a gallery. In this space, I have had the fortune of curating dance and performance and cultivating a dance community amongst artist and movers.
