Rashana Smith is a dancer, choreographer, educator and technologist. With twenty-four years of dance experience and fourteen years working with network technologies as her background, Smith creates choreographic work and educational settings that focus on embodied interaction. Her current research involves the integration of digital interfaces with documentary-style videos as a way of highlighting the process of human perception. Most recently, Smith authored the Vera J. Blaine Choreographic Resources website as archival documentation of the teaching methods of Vera J. Blaine and as an online teaching tool for dance educators. Smith received her MFA in Dance at The Ohio State University with a focus on Choreography and Technology. While at OSU, she taught Dance Composition and Modern and Jazz techniques. She also taught Ballet, Social Dance, Dance in the Twentieth Century, and Dance Kinesiology at Wittenberg University and is currently Visiting Assistant Professor at Ohio Wesleyan University. Smith is the Artistic Director of Motor Dance and has presented and performed original choreography nationwide in festivals such as Big Range Austin Dance Festival, Brazos Contemporary Dance Festival, Midwest Regional Alternative Dance Festival, Bumbershoot, Islewilde Festival, and the National College Dance Festival at the Kennedy Center. Smith's work has been funded by the Coca Cola Critical Difference for Women Award, the OSU Alumni Grants for Graduate Research and Scholarship, and by OSU’s Department of Dance through the Chair’s Discretionary Fund and the Vera J.
