      Hi Sarah,

It is great to meet you. I really like the images on your page—intriguing work. I have been working with issues of conflict and consequences—specifically in relation to power dynamics and environment. Your Surveillance System sparked my interest. I come to the city periodically; let me know when you have some performances coming up, would love to see your work. I'll be in NYC for a week at the beginning of June.

      best,
      Tiffany

      - the emphasis on dismissal by identification and a utilitarian sense of priority in art-philosohpy - i.e how does it contribute? what does it give us? how does it make life new? so much is out there that no one holds the countercultural advantage these days. everything is countercultural and so not countercultural at all in so being.

      - false promises rooted in dreams that get swept away with the changing tides - nothing permanent or lasting ever happens today because nothing is valued beyond its ability to be some new idea or new creative tool for us all to use and all are busy creating tools for all to use.

the quantity of these that are produced today and overlooked are evidence of that. we are in a sea of invention and so invention is no longer thrilling to anyone - especially because of bleeding edge, everything that is invented can be made closely enough related to everything else that the thing that is invented isn't even new. its muddy waters where all the "individual" is homogeneous.

so it's me dancing with me, like most people are dong nowadays anyway - isolation through constant connection

For the past six years I have been collaborating with Holly Faurot on endurance-oriented performances based on what we refer to as the Surveillance System, a physical network of bodies controlling bodies through movement, video, improvisation, and sound. These works exist somewhere between the realms of performance art and dance. They focus on movement as a language of basic human interaction, whether it is through a subtle gesture, a theatrical spectacle, or the placement of a body within a space. Pre-recorded and live surveillance videos act as signals that trigger the performers’ options within the non-linear dramas. Choreographed and improvisational elements based on spontaneous decisions force us (and/or other performers) to learn how we fit within the system and how we can or cannot manipulate one another. Dynamic systems of communication emerge within these multi-sensory works. Our performances relate to voyeurism, shifts in power-positions, and translation through different media. The temporality of installation art, contemporary dance, conceptual art, and video trends are all influences that inform our collaborative work. We seek to bring humanness and the body to the public in its most shimmering form, whether it is through a triumphant sensory experience or a grotesque, yet celebrated, representation of reality.
