Sarah Wilbur is a choreographer, performer, educator, and director of The Wide Sky Dance Project, a progressive arts initiative supporting choreographic research and experimentation aimed at widespread participation in live contemporary dance art. A Midwest native, Sarah began her professional work in the field in the non-profit sector, working for eleven years as the artistic director for Milwaukee-based Danceworks, Inc. (1996-2007) where she co-founded a resident modern dance collective, presented the work of local and visiting dance artists, and worked to develop/implement community-focused education and performance programming alongside a team of dedicated artists and administrators. Sarah developed The Wide Sky Dance Project in 2005 as a platform to explore inclusive performance methods and to widen the influence and impact of experimental dance in the U.S. Sarah’s work has received support from The United Performing Arts Fund, John Michael Kohler Arts Center Connecting Communities Program, Milwaukee Arts Board, Wisconsin Arts Board, Milwaukee County/CAMPAC, The Yard artist colony, the John Michael Kohler Arts Center, and California State University-Long Beach. Sarah is currently working toward her MFA in choreography in the Department of World Arts and Cultures at UCLA as a Jacob K. Javits Fellow.
