Tangaj Collective is one of the most popular dance companies in Romania. With a very strong stylistic approach, the performances and dance films created by the company are very much inspired by science, visual arts and technology. The artistic director of the company is Simona Deaconescu, an emerging choreographer, film director and curator. Tangaj Dance is supported by the National Dance Centre in Bucharest, The Romanian Cultural Institute, 4 Culture Association, WASP- Working Art Space and Production. Our projects have been financed by The Administration of the National Cultural Fund, The Ministry of Culture, The U.S. Embassy in Bucharest, The Romanian Cultural Institute in Vienna, New York and Istanbul, and ARCUB – The Cultural Projects Center of Bucharest. Part of the projects of our organization are created in co-production with Battery Dance Company New York, 4 Culture, Life Long Burning International Network and Tapioca Film. Among our partners we are also glad to mention: The National Contemporary Art Museum Bucharest, The National Film Archive (Union Cinema), The National Theatre Marin Sorescu in Craiova, Policy Center for Roma and Minorities, Cinelabs, Colorgrade, Raza Studio, KOTKI visuals, Colectiv A Association, and Experimental Project Association. Starting 2013 our collective has implemented a serial production program of dance shows in collaboration with visual and interactive artists that have resulted into 3 virtual performance rooms: 0001 | Fabrica de vise (Dream Factory), 0002 | Birdville and 0003 | Aftertaste. The shows have been performed both in Bucharest as well as in other cities of the country and abroad. In the same year Tangaj Dance shoots a first dance film – Silent Places, which later achieves remarkable international success, being presented in over 30 film festival and entering international distribution circuits. In 2015 our artistic collective shoots a second dance film that will premiere internationally in June 2016. Besides its production activity, Tangaj Dance is the co-producer of X Platform, an international residency project and New Media exhibition that was nominated this year at the Administration of the National Cultural Fund Awards for the contribution brought to interdisciplinary art. In 2015 the members of the collective decided to develop the first festival in Romania dedicated to dance films and installations, placing our country in the international circuit of countries that promote this genre. Bucharest International Dance Film Festival unfolded in 2015 at the Romanian Cultural Institute and Union Cinema with the participation of 54 films from 27 countries. Over the course of 2015 our organization held several pre-events to pave the way for the festival, special projections co-presented together with some of the most important dance film festivals in the world: San Francisco Dance Film Festival, Pool International Dance Film Platform, Leeds International Screendance Competition and Bestias Danzantes Chile. The members of the organization have been constantly involved over the years in promoting contemporary dance and its intersection with other arts. Starting 2010 the choreographer Simona Deaconescu develops one of the most popular training programs for non-professionals in the country, with over 3000 participants overall, doubled by recurring workshops on dance technique and interdisciplinary composition, DIMAP - Directii Inovatoare in Multimedia si Arta Performativa (Innovative Directions in Multimedia and Performance Art). Tangaj Collective comprises young artists and cultural managers with high competence in arts, film production and project management. Our mission is to create a bridge between the creative industry in Romania and that in Europe and the USA.
