Véronique MacKenzie comes from an eclectic artistic background having studied in Canada, the U.S. and England. She has studied ballet, jazz, modern dance, visual art, clowning, Fool-work, creative movement and theatre from which she has developed a unique performance style. She has created works for the Halifax Comedy Festival, Charlottetown’s Late Night Festival, the Local Currents Dance Festival, and the sketch comedy group Birdy Num Num. Veronique is well known in the dance community for her many choreographic explorations that dare to be different. Humour, drama, sets, props, video projections, and artistic collaborations – all these and more can be found in her ever varied work. After a very successful run with her one-woman comedy show “Undone” presented at last season’s Festival Antigonish, Veronique travelled to the U.S. to study with some of the country’s best site specific dance artists and returned to create a new show called “Citizens” with support from the Canada Council for the Arts and the N.S. Dept. of Tourism and Culture. In addition to her creative pursuits, Veronique teaches movement for a variety of artists-in-the-schools programs as well as for Halifax Dance, Dalhousie University and NSCAD University.
