"Der Überflieger - Wearable Interfaces for spy pigeons" is an experimental media art project that combines the dead medium of the homing pigeon with modern technologies such as GPS and digital photography. With the support of a local pigeon breeder and after several test flights it was possible to use homing pigeons for aerial photography and trace their route from the point of release back to the loft. The project demonstrates that the apparently forgotten medium of the homing pigeon combined with standard technology could be used for monitoring sourrounding area and exposing private or public activities, exposing its possibilities and dangers to society. This website and a DVD document the development, fabrication and testing of a wearable recording apparatus for pigeons. The project started in October 2008, test flights were done in the area of Graz, Austria in April 2009.More information: www.derueberflieger.comwww.andreaszingerle.com
