Funded by Southwest Screen in partnership with the Creative Industries iNET and Arts Council England, Archived’it is a new web application designed for users to remix and share their own film short using archive choreography from the 1930’s.
Working with The Dartington Hall Trust we will deconstruct and manipulate the 1934 dance film ‘Dance On Steps’ by integrating a new dancer into the original archive material; reconstructing and re-imagining ‘Dance on Steps’ into a series of film bites. The idea is to disseminate the content online through the generation of a web application that allows users to remix their own short film to a previously unreleased track provided by the Icelandic composer Olafur Arnalds.
My main aim is to find a way of encouraging an online audience to engage with the archive footage creatively. By physically being involved in the making process, the user experiences a sense of ownership over the end result and naturally desires to share their experience with others. My hope is for the subsequent web application generated by this project to provide a service that facilitates mass online participation in a cross discipline and collaborative creative activity.
