Some background:
In 1976 (that’s “A.D.” , wise guys!) I created my 1st rotoscoped animation using the motions of a dancer as the basis for the visuals and an unedited emotional documentary interview with a friend as the soundtrack. Source footage was shot on 16mm film with an Arri-S camera machine… and animation was drawn on papyrus (maybe it it was “B.C.”) with water color paint (from an actual tube of actual paint) and a Rapidograph (oh, never mind…). The result was a 5 minute film and a box of 1500 paper drawings. (Maybe someday I’ll digitize them, etc.)
Since that project I have never stopped tossing and turning images of bodies in motion in my head and on my canvas (which, these days is digital in nature). The most recent object of my infection has been our Greyhound rescue “Pilot”.
My plan is to collaborate with interested choreographers and companies soon on new dance animation imagery to be animating stages and screens near you.
