Duende is a Whole Body Interactive Performance in which a flamenco dancer is able to produce and control sound by employing body motion associated with her physical skills in flamenco dance. The sonic output is composed in real time and is based on a specific 12 beat rhythmic structure (palo) known as Bulerias. Bulerias is the quickest and most complex of all flamenco palos.A set of wireless sensors (Orient3) are attached to the body in order to create the communication channel between the performer and the digital system.. Through the seamless interface, motion data is transmitted to the computer where a three dimensional representation of the body moving in space is created in real time. Useful motion data are then getting analyzed and dynamically mapped into the compositional algorithm. In particular, we aimed to reveal and exploit the intensity of those key parts of the body that form the kinaesthetic elements of Flamenco. The project was realized in collaboration with the professional Flamenco Dancer, Marisa Dima in April 2010.For more information visit : http://www.project-duende.info/Real-time wireless sensor MoCap, Orient-3, provided by the The Speckled Computing Consortium, Edinburgh University
