dance-tech.net presents: Interview with Grisha Coleman, She has recently composed scores for choreographer Rennie Harris' Facing Mekka, Laurie Carlos' Marion's Terrible Time of Joy and the Hartford Ballet's X-Mass Illness/Mainframe Carols. From 1995-2000 she was Artistic Coordinator of Hot Mouth, her vocal ensemble. The group performed at many venues, including P.S. 122 in New York, The Dublin Fringe Festival, Sadler's Wells in London, and The Spoleto Festival in Charleston, South Carolina. Hot Mouth was nominated for a Drama Desk award in 1998. Her previous works include Black Alice, Modem Love, and Cab and Lena. A current research fellow at Carnegie Mellon's Studio for Creative Inquiry, she has also been awarded residencies at the Banff Center for the Arts, The Integrated Media Program at CalArts and Yaddo. She has received grants from the Jerome Foundation, Rockefeller MAP Fund, Franklin Furnace, and The New York Foundation for the Arts and has taught and guest lectured at universities widely.

thanks Marlon! It struck me from a variety of angles. Great to hear Grisha's ideas and background. so cool that her music technology background was so artfully used here - that the concepts in the sound were coherent with the work as a whole. i'd love to see the work as a whole. when's the silicon valley performance?
