The footage is from northern Scotland in 2006. I had met Professor Echo the summer before and played for five hours before collapsing. This footage captures my self-conscious attempt at recapturing that original experience. When I was shooting I had no idea what the footage would be used for. Over time it seemed to call out to me. I used this footage for a performance installation I made the next year in Dublin in 2007, but for a completely different artistic purpose than what is shown here. This is a remix. Now it represents a time I wasn't mournful, but instead reveling in the memories set in motion by unfettered play. The elements of my identity are negotiated at times like this-- since he is a dog and not a cat or a bird it satisfies that end of me-- and nothing is missing. The sound is traffic passing in the middle of the night, a byproduct I never used while videotaping the moon in Dublin in 2007 for a project on werewolves.
