"The Year's Midnight," 2011 Shadow Box 5 high resolution interactive display with built-in computerized surveillance system 41.14 x 31.5 x 4.72" / 104.5 x 80 x 12 cm edition of 6, 1 AP "The Year's Midnight" is the last piece in Lozano-Hemmer Shadow Box series of interactive displays, which use a built-in computerized tracking system. The project's name is the beginning of John Donne's "A Nocturnal Upon St. Lucy's Day, Being the Shortest Day", a mournful poem which inspires this work.This piece shows the viewer's image on screen, unprocessed, except for plumes of white smoke that emanate from his or her eye sockets until the whole display is filled with dense white smog.
