  • The sound of the tape gave me a strong kinesthetic response this piece. I could feel the stickiness of the tape and the resistance it gives when it is attached to the ground and other dancers. The tape sound made the piece seem more real and intimate. I felt like I was moving with them because of all the close shots on the dancers. The voice over created an interesting layer which added to the intimacy of the piece. I think the light humming could have developed further into a clearer "vein pattern." It was satisfying to hear the harsh sounds of the tape along with the clear, soft humming noise. I longed to hear this relationship more clearly.
  • Hi Tori,

Great improvement on location. Although I FELT LIKE THIS VERSION LOST SOME OF THE FASTER MOVING SHOTS AND LOWER ANGLES THAT MADE THE FIRST ONE GOOD. THIS ONE WAS FULL OF REALLY CLOSE UP SHOTS AND DIDN'T VARY MUCH. IN ADDITION, THE SOFT HUMMING ALSO ADDED A EERIE NEW FEELING TO THE MOVEMENT WHICH WAS NICE.
  • I love the soft singing in the beginning. It gives a sort of eerie atmosphere, and then the sound of the whistling with the tape and the plastic gives me a very kinesthetic response to the piece. The close shots give a feeling of being in the piece along with hearing the plastic and the tape. The change in scenery from the first version of this video dance was nice for the blackness of the surroundings is less distracting and contrasting from the piece itself. Perhaps there could be more of an emphasis on the tape that has words on it if thy are suppose to mean something to the piece. At the ending, the camera could follow the tape more, almost like following the veins of the body, emphasizing the tapes importance.
  • This video has been much improved, in my opinion, and the sound adds a wonderfully rich layer to the whole thing. The opening of just the camera scanning the tape and plastic with the gentle singing is so mysterious but full of intriging texture, in vision in sound. I know they must be bodies, but the closeup makes the moment so mysterious as to how the bodies are positioned and why they are there. The tape and plastic sounds give the whole dance a sort of meditative texture - a constant that tickles throughout. I felt like I was actually in plastic being taped, so the audio was very kinesthetically strong for me.

There were times when I felt sort of dizzy by the constant moving closeups, as well as a longing for a different camera angle. The camera seemed to be aimed down at the dancers with them in the center, and I wonder if both the camera angle and the frame could have been played with - especially to emphasize the dancers other worldliness. There is one moment when the camera follows the hand going upward and it felt like a breath of fresh air.

The soft singing at the beginning and end worked for me. I felt like I needed to hear it at the end to remind me of the creepiness and break the dizzyness.

    Amazing costumes!
  • the addition of the sound score of the tape and plastic resonated well with me in regards to viewing Vein Patterns. I feel more of the experience with the sounds of textures imbedded within the visuals. It is effective, and not too loud or overdone for my experience. The mumbled humming in the beginning and the ending creates this dreamlike landscapes that introduces me into this unreal world where the dance takes place. I feel that it eases me as a viewer into the experience of the dance.

Speaking to the movement portion of the film. Something about the ending did not resonate well for me and I am actually more struck by a moment right before when Emily falls to the ground. I wonder how that would change the meaning of the experience if Tina didn't pick Emily back up...
  • I appreciated hearing the voice at only the end and the beginning- brought you into this world where people wear plastic bags and are tapped together and then the voice brought you back to reality and you left this world. The crinkling and ripping of the tape are such rich sounds! I really enjoyed the sound addition to the piece as I could feel myself the sensations the props would create. I longed to see more wide shots to get more of the fuller image.
  • love your voice!!!! i'd love to hear more of it during the video, not just the opening and ending.
Your (moving) close-ups are striking. I just find the shot of the tape (with a message on it?) a bit confusing, it was a bit fast and blur for me to read. However, you did a good job in making a concise video. I really love this short version of your Ex.4.
