REGISTER HERE.On Mondays, Spring 2011: January-FebruaryAfrican Butoh dancer, Edoheart, is leading a series of new classes focused on expanding the vocal possibilities of Butoh dance while training in the fundamental aspects of this art form. Edoheart is a multiple award-winning poet, singer, dancer and artist who has performed and lectured all over the world, most recently at The Living Theatre and Columbia University. Her style of butoh is based in imagery, poetry and form, seeking to turn the body into a living, glittering, telepathic sculpture. All classes will be held at the beautiful Movement Research studio at Eden’s Expressway.No experience is necessary to dance butoh!CLASS DESCRIPTIONS:Fundamental FormsMondays (1/3, 1/10, 1/24, 1,31, 2/7, 2,14, 2/21, 2/28)6:30-7:30pmThis class will focus on the butoh-fu forms that Hijikata explored and Waguri codified like that of the cat, bull, smoke, light and nerve walks and vocal aspects from Edoheart's exploration such as integrated free-improvisation group harmonies, sigh and yodel exercises, nerve talks and more- all aimed at improving participants' vocal range and strength. An excellent physical workout and a great support method for all performers!$12 for a single class or $80 for the entire course (8 hours)REGISTER HERE.ChoreographiesMondays (1/3, 1/10, 1/24, 1,31, 2/7, 2,14, 2/21, 2/28)7:30-8:30pmThis class will begin with deepening, meditative exercises aimed at loosening the body and it's inhibitions and allowing participants to more easily enter the spaces necessary for transforming between fundamental physical and vocal forms and more elaborate ideas in the dance of darkness. In this class, students will be provided the opportunity to work on their own choreographies, rooted in poetry and imaginative creation of alternate spaces. This selection provides the option to use the Forms class as a strong foundational basis and as a warm up for the more experimental Choreographies class.
