ABUNDANCE 2010 - Dance and Choreography FestivalThe aim is to gather choreographers, dancers, critics and philosophers from many countries, and offer a platform for exchange, feedback and critique of new work as well as being a forum for creating new knowledge about dance and choreography. The festival will offer opportunities to see, talk about and participate in performances and workshops.ABUNDANCE 2010 will coincide with the international congress World Summit - On Media for Children and Youth, which will be situated in Karlstad in June 2010, and the general theme of dance, body and media is at the centre of ABUNDANCE Dance Festival.Armadillo Dance Project is posting this event at dance-tech.net because of the appearance of several dance and technology presenters at the festival, includingArmadillo Dance ProjectArmadillo Dance Project uses real-time computer-interactive technology to create performances and installations that intimately entwine movement, sound, and other media. It is an ongoing collaboration between choreographer Kathleya Afanador and composer Allen Fogelsanger.The aim is not to spotlight the technology but rather to create interesting and unusual relationships between sound and movement. The resulting audio-visual performance may offer experiences ranging from the cerebral to the sensual that combine into a challenging puzzle of formal structures and playful juxtapositions.High Frequency Wavelengths Dance CompanyHigh Frequency dance company has been recognized as a leader in the field of dance and technology. The company’s thirty years of multi-disciplinary exploration is a hands-on collaborative approach that is unique to the field, emphasizing the more emotional qualities of dance and using light and media as sculptural tools. High Frequency’s work has been presented in Japan, Australia, Italy, China, Taiwan, Korea, Bulgaria, Colombia, Cyprus, Greece, Poland, Russia, Belarus, the Philippines, Canada and throughout the USA. It has been broadcast nationally on NBC, CBS, and in 10 countries.0pen M0de Collective[0pen m0de] is founded by Greek media-artist Maria Karagiani and Dutch composer/musician Sjoerd Leijten. Their collaboration started off with an artist in residency at the transdisciplinary laboratory Nadine in Brussels. Reflections on authorship, interpretation and distribution of roles are the motivations of their experiments with different degrees of control and interaction by audience participation.Using solar cells, FM-transmitters, radios, webcams and open-source programming platforms (Python and Supercollider) the collective works with real time transcoding between different elements of a performance (light, sound, image) and looks for open forms of composition in combination with more deterministic ones.Saffy SetohyLondon born Saffy Setohy trained at Laban, graduating in 2007 with a First Class BA. Since then she has been working as a freelance performer and choreographer for stage, installation, film and site-specific contexts. Her main choreographic interests lie in our relationship to our environment, improvisation in performance, challenging the audience/performer relationship and collaborative processes.She has been collaborating for the two last years with media artist and composers Ben Sassen and Reynir Hutber under the name Unearthed Performance. Setohy likes to challenge her creativity by working in new directions and contexts and has just created a prize-winning show for international hairdressing house Vidal Sassoon, inspired by the futuristic early silent film Metropolis by Fritz Lang.
