Slag Gallery is pleased to present Natasa Trifan Performance Group in their newest production, CAPTURING GIL-GULIM II - a video dance installation. In Capturing Gil-Gulim II, Natasa Trifan Performance Group creates a tense standoff between seduction and repulsion.The show displays a high rectangular “table cloth” of viscera that invites the desire to touch and see. The choreography's unusual material and intricate movement patterns prompt a fascination that soon turns to fear as the spectacle of human organs - even in simulation creates a powerful reminder of human vulnerability. Capturing Gil-Gulim II is a video dance installation inspired by the 17 th century vanitas paintings. Especially popular in this period were vanitas paintings, in which sumptuous arrangements of fruit and flowers, skulls, books, vases and other objects were accompanied by symbolic reminders of life's impermanence. None of Natasa Trifan's “Vanitas” dances are such in the strict sense; their theme is less about the meaninglessness of existence in the face of inevitable mortality, than it is about embracing life in spite of its vulnerability and brevity.Martin Burga long time collaborator with the group creates rich textures and luring video designs that enhance the show's composition. Composer Petre Radu Scafaru studied at the prestigious Institute of Sonology at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague with the electronic music guru Joel Ryan. His composition's skills brings amazing harmonics with very sharp crescendos that supports the moods of the project. Oana Botez-Ban is a Princess Grace award winner for the best costume designer of the 2007 year. Oana designs costumes for Natasa Trifan, the main dancer that emphasizes her characters and also her movements.
