FROM FLESH TO ABSTRACTION:
an interactive disappearance
[choreographer: Amber Ortega-Perez
movement translators: Albert Delgado, Jennifer Edmond Jones, Robin O'Donovan, viewer participants
technical directors: Dr. Joey Lopez, Luis Vazquez, Convergent Media Collective]

Synopsis/Description
Dancers from Ireland, New York and San Antonio will form a live digital network and in real time engage in a communication of reading and translating movement.
This installation will be a process of human disappearance as the original, live movement is translated first by the remote, streaming dancers, then by the viewer/audience and finally by a computer algorithm.

Viewers will be guided to join in the process of disappearance by further translating the mediated movement into their own movement language of choice. An Xbox Kinect will then aid in translating the audience/viewers movement into abstracted image cast onto a large screen. This screen will in turn be feeding the original live dancers cognitive processes as she performs.

The audience will be led into an environment where they can learn about the process of Reading and Translating movement as used by Amber Ortega-Perez, the choreographer. They will be guided into further participation by an open model set-up that will encourage and guide the viewer to interact and affect the overall aesthetic and outcome/output of the work. Viewers will have the ability to choose which live-streamed/remote dancer to translate and in doing so will affect sound and image output.

Join me in constructing an environment of spontaneous communication and the deconstruction of a score.
