This work is an exploration through movement of the differences between modern day Western ideals and cultural expression and those of the Eastern world and how the East is slowly penetrating into the West. The West is brought to life by a cast of dancers who portray Western mentalities such as a free-love, anything goes, and every man for himself. This is followed by the portrayal of the East wherein the choreography is HIGHLY influenced and inspired by Zen Buddhist ritual and practice. The Eastern movement is meditative and full of both traditional and symbolic gestures, mudras and embodiments. Within the East music is the Heart Sutra the and Affirming Faith Mind chant; meanwhile, the dancers actually chant parts of the Heart Sutra. After begin explored individually, the two realms come together on stage, forcing them to respond and interact with one another. This brings about a a climatic, and colorful resolution that you will have to come see to experience!
