Two inter-disciplinary workshops that explore ecological patterns of immersion in landscapes, movement and technology. Both workshops will open spaces to explore embodied systems of knowing in exchanges between outside and inside, material and virtual, live and mediated, intimate and globally dispersed.1) THREE MILES AN HOUR: Movement, Consciousness and the Environment, August 6-7'Consider the pelvis as a secret theatre, where thinking and walking meet' (Rebecca Solnit, 2001, p42)In this workshop we invite the landscape into our secret theatre through two days of walking in the beautiful Berkshire mountains. We will attend to the ways in which our experiences of place and self change as we move through the landscape. The walk as performance will underscore our actions: how we walk, where we walk and how we approach a place will be questions that guide our artistic investigations.Day 1: 7 -10 miles of walking, performing, responding and recording.Day 2: A series of smaller walks/performances that start and end in the same place and follow participant interests. Both in the moment response and recording of what happens along the way will be encouraged.Participants are advised to bring sturdy walking shoes, sun cream, insect repellent, a day size back pack, notebook, a water bottle that holds at least 2 litres, cameras, dictaphones and anything else that facilitates you working comfortably outside all day in the landscape in summer conditions.2) OUTSIDE IN, August 8, 2-4PMWe will attend to our changing experiences of place by moving through tasks that facilitate exchanges between outside and inside, material and virtual, live and mediated, intimate and globally dispersed.
