NEITHER is the first production in contemporary musical theater, who is working with advanced 3D audio technology and a virtual orchestra, and phase7 is now transforming NEITHER into the digital present.
phase7 performing.arts is staging Beckett / Feldman's experimental music and the lostness of a disembodied and imprisoned mindset as an immediate experience for the audience. The Norwegian soprano Eir Inderhaug sings in the midst of a virtual orchestra, created by a 3d-audio-system.
64 circularly arranged speakers and the technique of wave field syntehsis (WFS) enable the sound of the orchestra to be placed three-dimensional within the audience. Instruments seem to be moving around in the room in a constant flow of differring sound. The disembodied virtual orchestra becomes a manipulative, unpredictable phantom - it floats in between, in the "Neither". A game begins with the perception of the listener.
