This is the "core" Cnoc Gréine's spiritual culture. In the foreground is the stone foundation for the large hall used for group interaction & certain shared meals; just beyond is a sharp crease in the hill leading down to the water terraces, and beyond that is a basalt knob with a spring pool at its base.Cnoc Gréine is also the core of a large igneous ring dyke pluton dominating the western side of County Limerick, and this hill is the central geologic structure... corresponding to a volcanic core.The far ridge includes a protective ring fort, and beyond that are the remains of a traditional Irish early Bronze village (including a flint mine). The women's community here would have received staple food & new candidates through the women of that further ridge village.The women were devoted exclusively to the Sun in her female, Grian, form... live reclusively in stone huts on the other side of the hill call "grianan" or sun-houses, and were referred to as "Daughters of the Sun." In today's Irish, the adjective "gréine" refers to a sunny, or warm-dispositioned person.
