In May 2013, within the Month of Performance Art Berlin → www.mpa-b.org, Agora Collective focuses its four-week long residency on questions that permeates two distinctive scenes: Choreography/Dance and Performance Art.

These two scenes has its own values and distinctive practices, though many times one can recognize very similar interests during the creation processes and as well as final works that are hard to label between one or the other.

Agora Collective dedicates all its activities of the month of May to research the bridges, non-bridges, the similarities and differences, the clichés and the practices of these two distinctive but very close disciplines. The month long program is officially part MPA-Berlin additionally with Agora’s program that includes workshops and performances by artists from both disciplines and a round table with professionals active in both fields.

For its residency program, Agora Collective invites a Contemporary dancer/choreographer and a Performance Artist to work during a month, focusing on the questions above raised about the connections and the distinctions between the two scenes. Agora has in its core the notion of collaboration, and implements situations and spaces to enlighten the benefits of working with and in a group of multi-disciplines and interests.

ABOUT THE SPACE

Agora is a network that creatively facilitates the exchange, development and encounter of ideas, skills and resources amongst people and projects. Housed in a restored Altbau in the heart of Neukölln in Berlin, this multidisciplinary project space is a cultural hub where educational, artistic, and entrepreneurial values are cultivated and exchanged.

AGORA COLLECTIVE

Agora Collective – the art collective based in Agora – is a small group of artists and thinkers emerging from many disciplines and backgrounds. While it retains a small, core group from project to project it also constantly invites new members to meet the challenges of new work. The collective is as well responsible for conceiving the artistic initiatives of the house from curatorial projects to practical/educational workshops.

Agora Team provides the facilitation, network to Berlin based artists and for the end of the program an outcome to be presented at Agora that might take shape into diverse formats – from an exhibition to a conceptual dinner – that should be solutioned by the artists in residency.
