Teoma Naccarato is a choreographer, performer, and media artist, presently based in Berlin. Her work invites sensing of bodies and movement in close proximity; performers wield camaras and biosensors on their own bodies, becoming differently available to each audience-participant throughout an event. Recent creations include III: Once Removed, Synchronism, Experience #1167, and Dirt, presented internationally at venues such as the SummerWorks Performance Festival (Toronto), Tangente Danse (Montreal), the Rapid Pulse Performance Art Festival (Chicago), the Hemispheric Institute Encuentro (Montreal / Rio de Janeiro / Bogota), the ReNew Digital Arts Festival (Copenhagen), and the TimeWave Festival (UK). As a scholar, she engages with feminist, new materialist, and process philosophies to interrogate intersections between bodies, movement, and technology. Recent publications are featured in the Journal of Dance and Somatic Practices, Performance Research, Leonardo, and Performance Philosophy. Naccarato holds a PhD from the Centre for Dance Research at Coventry University (2019), an MFA in Dance and Technology from the Ohio State University (2011), and a BFA in Dance from Concordia University (2004).
