Submissions for POOL 15 are possible until july, 1! Send us your dance film for POOL's 9th edition.

PROFIL

POOL is a format for dance films and dance animations and offers space for the mutual exchange of experiences, development, training, and production prospects. It is a platform for films which picture dance not as a simple documentation, but rather create choreographies exclusively for, and with, the camera. POOL focuses on the intense interplay between dance and the techniques of film, exploring the possibilites and boundaries of the genre. In addition, POOL encourages exchange with other creative areas such as fashion, advertising and music.

 

PARTICIPATION

All dancers, choreographers, film makers and artists are invited to apply with dance short films and dance animations. 
Films should not be longer than 30 minutes and also not only a documentation of a dance piece. The budget of the films or the background of its creators are less important for us.

There is no entry fee.

Only if your film is chosen for the programme:

  • Filled and signed online application form as scan to info@pool-festival.de
  • 3 digital film stills, minimum 300 dpi
  • Optional:  biography, video testimonies and useful information

The POOL 15 jury will create a film programme from all submissions and select the winner films, the PEARLS 15. PEARLS are the equal winners of POOL – INTERNATIONALE TanzFilmPlattform BERLIN.

POOL is a recurring format for dance- and animationfilm.The aim is to create a platform for dancers, choreographers, directors, artists, organizers and other interested people. POOL offers space for a mutual exchange of experiences, developing and advanced training, and presentations prospects. It`s a platform for those kinds of films, which picture dance not as a simple documentation, but more as a creative piece of art, using cuts and several other techniques for creation. We also like films which include every kind of non-dance movement in choreography. Moreover biographies of creators are less important or whether it`s a high or low budget film.

Kinetic Cinema with Elizabeth Zimmer Oct 6th

Next Monday, Oct 6th you won't want to miss veteran dance critic Elizabeth Zimmer at Kinetic Cinema. As the editor of the seminal book "Envisioning Dance On Film and Video" (Routledge, 2002), Elizabeth Zimmer has researched and grappled with issues of mediatized dance extensively. For her Oct 6th program she will show two documentaries that offer very different approaches to movement for screen.

The evening will include "The Way Things Go", an award-winning film by Swiss artists Peter Fischli and David Weiss, that documents the chain-reactive performance of a 100 foot long kinetic sculpture made entirely of common household objects (click here for a teaser on YouTube). The second half of the program will feature two rarely-seen volumes of a documentary project Elizabeth Zimmer appeared in and assisted on entitled "Downtown Dance-New York 2007". At the next Kinetic Cinema on June 2nd, choreographer Kriota Willberg will be presenting a hilarious program of the worst dance films in history. To help her compile her list, she is seeking input from the community.
